Taj Mahal, built by 20,000 men and 1,000 elephants. Agra Fort, a walled city that withstood attacks for centuries. Dev Bhumi, “Land of the Gods” – the Himalayas. Bigger than all these things is the veneration of spirit that defines the true nature of India. The Road Less Traveled celebrates this diverse nation’s spiritual culture.
India’s history begins with some of the earliest signs of human activity, and was home to the first major civilization in South Asia. It became a destination for European traders who wanted the spices and silk. Through all the changes over the centuries, through wars and natural disasters, Buddhists have stayed the course on their journey to enlightenment.
Today India is a sensory experience unmatched anywhere. We are privileged to be challenged and enlightened by our hosts and to support them in their journey.

We have a long history in India and have been running our Namaste program since 2005. Over the past 12 years, we've evolved and perfected the program to include the ideal balance of rural life and city life, spending time among the striking Himalayas and working alongside monks at the Buddhist Monk Institute.
During our time at the Ngari Buddhist Institute, high in the Himalayas, we spend nine days working side-by-side the monks, improving the facilities at the institute while also helping with the care of the 45 children who live there. The institute is located in Ladakh in a small village called Saboo, and the children come from the remote villages of Changthang, Nubra, and Zanskar to receive an education. The goal of the institute is to become an oasis of learning and to empower impoverished youth with scientific knowledge and Buddhist wisdom. While there, we take part in this beautiful community, share stories with the kids, sip tea with monks, and assist in improving the facilities.
This was by far one of the best things we have ever done for our son Cooper. The Road Less Traveled people really know how to show the world to our young children," Phillip C., Namaste Alumni Parent
"I was extremely nervous when I first arrived in Chicago and met Ali and Dan, but those nerves quickly slipped away. Ali and Dan were amazing leaders that made the trip so much fun with their outgoing, fun, and extremely caring personalities. I learned so much this summer in India whether it was how to build a school or a new way of life, it was just astonishing. I don't think I've ever felt so relaxed and serene in my life...I will always keep this close to my heart and will always be thinking about it," Brooke S., Namaste Alum"
Jeremy has returned safe and sound and "changed" from his Namaste experience. He was fallen in love with India -- said that he felt "at home" immediately there -- not at all like it was a foreign place, but strangely familiar. He loved so many things about the trip, but said that the AIDS clinic in Jaipur was the most radically enlightening...what you are doing has made a difference to our son," Ruth D., Namaste Alumni Parent.
