Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness. - Mark Twain
Indeed, travel on The Road Less Traveled is that — and so much more. Sometimes challenging, it allows us to face our fears and test our limits, and in the process, builds self-confidence and maturity. Travel on RLT allows us to contribute to and be part of a larger group and world, as we live with others independent of home and family. It develops open-mindedness, understanding, and respect for a common humanity through interactions with people from cutures and faiths different from our own.
We know that young people who experience certain formative “life lessons” before they are launched into independence have an advantage once they leave home. These lessons are not the ones measured by SAT or ACT scores. They are not learned by being plugged into some form of electronic medium for hours a day. They can only be experienced by taking controlled risk, moving outside one’s comfort zone, trying new things and expanding one’s horizons.
On The Road Less Traveled, there is no homework and there are no grades. And no technology — no computers, cell-phones or iPods, students are free to focus on cultivating individual strengths in ways that build confidence and self-reliance.
Our students return home with excitement, new ideas, and something more to offer — to their schools, communities, and to the world. They have an adventure to share, a story to tell, inspired by a world and people they never knew existed.
The privilege of spending summers away from home is like nothing else. It is first and foremost, just that, a privilege. And, on The Road Less Traveled, it is also so much more. The Road Less Traveled is an extraordinary opportunity to join with others, explore humanity, and build deep relationships and an appreciation for our world’s vast adventurous scenery. With people around the globe we work together, hear inspiring stories, and meet life's challenges. Compare us to others, call us personally with questions, ask for references and, of course, we hope you will extend your faith and trust to lend us your child for the summer of a lifetime.
